2011.10.20 ~ 2011.10.21
Venue: LAM (Laboratoire D’ Astrophysique de Marseille)
Technical issues discussed in this preparation meeting will include every component from each collaborator and the timeline of PFS project as well as interfaces. The strategy for building data reduction software system also would be important.
Though we discuss mainly technical issues, we will have some time for checking the consistency between proposed top-level requirements from science and our instrument specification. The top-level requirements will be proposed by science working groups before the preparation meeting.
■ Agenda ■
Oct 20 (Thu)
9:30- 9:50 (20min)
[0] Initial remarks
o Goals of this meeting: To clarify unresolved / undiscussed issues, and to resolve them (or at least determine how to resolve them) in order for successful CoDR
o Briefly touching through the agenda to show what will be discussed
o A brief review of various parameters, based on PFS www
(https://www.naoj.org/staff/naoyuki/pfs/index.html)
9:50-10:40 (50min)
[1] Fiber FRD & F-numbers
o A report of FRD study compilation from the literature & plan of FRD experiments in LNA (Project office)
o Current status and comments (LNA)
o Discussion: Will F/2.5 collimator be OK for the baseline design?
Pros – F/2.5 collimator (and F/1.1 camera) has been designed already at some level. By defining baseline design, design studies of other related parts will proceed.
Cons – Compromise of throughput in outer fields. What if it turns out we have to significantly modify it in a direction technically more difficult.
10:40-11:30 (50min)
[2] Microlens
o Current status of design study & future plan (vendor search, prototyping, development of alignment & assembly procedure etc based on discussions at LNA (Project office)
o Comments on technical details (Sao Paulo/LNA)
o Discussion (in response to questions & comments)
11:30-12:10 (40min)
[3] Fiber connector
o Current plan of throughput measurement by LNA (Project office/LNA)
o Discussion:
– Make sure the presence of two-connectors plan
– One connector or two connectors?
Pros – Ease of fiber cable development, installation, spectrogaph testing, etc. Rastering may be done with a special camera without spectrograph ready.
Cons – What if the throughput is found lower than expected.
12:10-13:30 (80min) Lunch
13:30-14:40 (70min)
[4] Spectrograph, Detector & Dewar
o Current status (Project office)
– Lack of final determination of Collimator F-ratio
– Collection of environmental data on the M3 floor
– Background estimation for red arm & IR arm
o Comments from LAM (Prieto)
o Comments from Princeton (Gunn)
o Discussion: List up action items and timelines
– Mechanical design with considering delivery, assembly, commissioning plan.
– Check feasibility of 2-layer AR coating on Hamamatsu CCD
14:40-15:00 (20min) Coffee break
15:00-17:00 (120min)
[5] Cobra, PFI, Metrology
o Cobra: current status, development, and future prospect (Seiffert, Braun(phone)) (30min)
o PFI: Revisiting PFI requirements: new inputs from HSC & FMOS (Project office) (35min)
o Summary of new development items (Seiffert, Bruno(phone)) (25min)
o Metrology camera: current status & future plan (ASIAA) (30min)
Oct 21 (Fri)
9:00-10:00 (60min)
[6] System software development & instrument operation concept
(Project office)
o Overall structure and design of PFS Software
o System restrictions and requirements
o Software interface design between PFS subsystems
o Software development strategy and management
o Discussion:
– How should the instrument be operated?
– Does the system meet the requirements from instrument operation?
– FMOS case as an example (and for lessons & learns)?
10:00-11:30 (90min)
[7] Consistency with top-level scientific requirement
